Tonight, I sit back and remember, That glorious day in late September, When my dear, sweet, kind, loving mother, Felt a pain disturbing her beloved slumber.

She winced and called out to my Dad, "Oh man, oh man, this hurts so bad!" "My little guts are twisting inside out!" "Get the car!" She cried with a shout.

An infant, a baby, a child, a kid, is coming, "Oooo, I may indeed need medical numbing."

"Push. Push. Push." the Doctor said.

“I can't, I can't, I feel just like lead.”

Dad spoke “Common, you're doing Great”

Angrily replied, “Shut up you...or meet your fate!”

“Sorry” He said not knowing what to do.

“Touch me again and we are through!”

Then it all stopped with a gentle cry.

“Oh good it's over. I'm not going to die!”

Perceiving the sound coming from a little face.

A certain peace engulfed that sterile space.

“It's a Boy, a Boy.” tears streaming down.

A giant smile replaced that painful frown.

Nine plus one months ago it all began.

This new addition to the Anderson Clan.

Now in the early autumn of late September

A new mother resolved to never surrender,

Forever and always to love this little man,

Was the new object of her daily plan!

Each day that passed her smile remained.

Every bump, break, scrape and tearful pain,

The boy grew and knew his mom was there,

Attending to his needs, wants and every care.

With each new inch his body grew,

Her resolve stayed forever true.

Then came the day when he had to leave.

She proudly knew what he could achieve.

And though she misses that little boy.

The man he is, gives her everlasting joy.

Her job well done, with her arms open still,

Offering a beacon of hope and a light on a hill.

That man is there with his head held high,

'Cause mom always said he was destined to fly!

And in her heart he is held tight and securely,

That little boy who was born better late than early.

(I wrote this for my Mother one year as a late Mother's Day present)
