A Minus

Sometimes by not getting a perfect "A" We've planted seeds for another day. One where our resolve to do much better, Bears fruit and we obtain that coveted letter.

Sometimes a strong A minus is good enough, Because "Heck, that class was pretty darn tough" Then ample pride in that work is happily taken, With skills now sharp, and my esteem unshaken.

Sometimes, however, we do miss that elusive mark, And unexpected despair then calls to us from the dark. Late at night when emotion is fat and reason is thin, I'm crying to myself for the "A" that could have been.
